For many actors, after a long 8-show week, their one day off is time to rest and recharge. This week, we caught up with Anthony Murphy from Diana The Musical to spend a morning with him. Get to know a bit more about Anthony in his #DayOffDiary:

Hometown? St. Pete, Florida.

Where might we find you on your day off? At the park with my dog Phalcon. Or on the couch watching TV and eating something delicious, also with Phalcon.

What got you into acting? My parents transferred me to the performing arts elementary school in my hometown in the second grade because the teachers at my previous school thought I was a disruption to the class and wanted to medicate me. My parents saw that there were other options for me and decided to get me involved in the arts!

What has been one of your favorite roles? So far it’s been playing The Genie in Aladdin. Couldn’t be more fun! But who knows what new fun roles are next?!

If you weren’t an actor, what would you be doing? Probably teaching. Besides being an actor I am also the Artistic Director for the Creative Workforce Summer Intensive at the Arts Conservatory for Teens in St. Pete Florida. Helping build the next generation of artists has always been a passion of mine so I would probably do that full time.

Were you a big fan of UK Royalty? I never paid much attention to the tabloids about the UK Royalty…but after doing Diana I see what all the allure was about! They make good drama! Lol

If you could describe your experience in Diana so far in just one word, what would it be? Thrilling!!

Who are you jamming to on Spotify right now? Chika!! Also if you don’t know her you should definitely check out her tiny desk concert! It is everything!!

What are you binging on TV right now? So I am soo late…but I am watching the Amazing Race! I just discovered it a couple months ago and luckily there are so many seasons I don’t think I will ever actually catch up! But hopefully I’ll be on the show one day! I call all the binging research!

One Instagram account (besides your own, duh), that we need to be following? @theyhavetherange is a great account if you just wanna hear some fierce vocals!! And I mean FIERCE!!

One hidden gem of NYC that no one knows about? J. Hood Park! One of the best views of the GWB!

Favorite coffee joint in Midtown? What’s your order? I don’t drink coffee…I know boring! Lol

Pickles on your burgers? Yes.

Pineapple on your pizza? Sometimes.

What flavor of cream cheese on your bagel? I’m gluten free…so if it’s a gluten free bagel and strawberry cream cheese!

What is one show you are dying to see on Broadway right now? Company

Favorite play/musical of all time? Andrew Lippa’s Wild Party

Dream Roles? Lola in Kinky Boots

Favorite memory of working on Diana so far? There have been so many amazing memories so far! Performing on Good Morning America definitely stands out to me but the best memories are the backstage moment with this amazing cast and getting to tell this fun and beautiful story.

You can catch Anthony in Diana The Musical which is now in performance at the Longacre Theatre through Sunday, December 19, 2021. For tickets and more information, visit here. For more photos, visit Theatrely on Instagram. All photos by Rebecca J Michelson/Theatrely.
